Brown Spots, or Lentigo, are small pigmented spots that occur on the skin and have a clearly defined edge, surrounded by skin that appears normal.  The most common, benign, sun induced lesion is a solar lentigo (actinic lentigo, senile lentigo, sun spot, liver spot). They occur in sun exposed areas appearing on the face, arms, tops of hands, and chest. The spots are typically smaller than 4mm in diameter and can be flat or depressed and may be split by fine wrinkles. The lesions are usually brown in color and may range from yellow-tan to black. Older lesions are often darker brown or black and can slowly increase in number and in size. It is most commonly found in individuals over 30 years old. Increased exposure to sun and artificial sources of UV light can cause these to appear at an even younger age.

Telangiectasias (commonly known as “broken capillaries” or “spider veins”) are dilated or broken blood vessels located near the surface of the skin. They often appear as fine pink or red lines, which temporarily whiten when pressed. “Matted” telangiectasias are clusters of these small dilated blood vessels that form a pink or red patch on the skin. Telangectasias can develop anywhere on the body but are commonly seen on the face around the nose, cheeks, chin, and chest. They can be caused by environmental damage such as sun or cold exposure and may increase as we age. Trauma to the skin such a contusions and surgical procedures are also a factor as well as radiation therapy. The Skin Classic treatment is extremely effective at vanishing these veins on the face with 1 or 2 treatments!

Sebaceous hyperplasia is a skin condition that becomes more common with age. It’s caused when your sebaceous oil glands produce too much oil, which can be trapped under your skin and cause bumps. Papular sebaceous hyperplasia is thought to be caused by a decrease in the circulating levels of androgen associated with aging.  Sebaceous hyperplasia lesions may be single or multiple. They are seen in areas where many oil glands are found – the face (nose, cheeks, and forehead), chest, upper arms, mouth lining, vulvar area, and around the nipples. Sebaceous hyperplasia is harmless and does not require any treatment. However, for cosmetic reasons or if they are bothersome if irritated, individual lesions may be removed by light electrocautery, such as Skin Classic.

Skin tags are small, benign growths of skin connected to the skin surface by a thin stalk of tissue. Also called an acrochordon, cutaneous papilloma, or cutaneous tag, they typically occur in areas where clothing or skin-to-skin friction causes some irritation. This can happen on the underarms, neck, groin, eyelids, and upper chest and their frequency can increase with age due to skin sensitivity. There can be a genetic predisposition, causing them to run in families and usually occur in about 25% of adults. The Skin Classic will remove with electrocautery desiccation.

A milium, plural milia, is a keratin filled cyst that can appear just under the epidermis. Milia are very common in newborn babies, but can appear on people of all ages. They are most commonly found around the nose and eye. In children, milia disappear easily, on their own. However, in adults they may require removal by skin care professional. It’s common to confuse the white bumps on your face with whiteheads, which are a type of acne. Milia aren’t a type of acne. This treatment is very quick and easy.
